DRAPED IN OBSERVATION

Is it possible to be experimental and maintain a minimal aesthetic?  I bought this Carly Hunter blouse today, and I think this is the first time I have seen it done really well.  Her signature silken drapes possess this geometric hold; while it appears somewhat simple in cut, this design hides really strong shaping.  The sheerness of the silk means that Hunter's work complements what is underneath, and adds this powerful layer of depth to traditional anatomy.  To me, this is what good fashion and design is all about: consideration of both the form and the extension of the individual.

There are so many great Australian designers working along to the beat of their own drum.  We sometimes might've been disregarded internationally in many creative industries but I think in fashion and design particularly this has come to our benefit now; it's ever-expanding and exciting and the originality and experimentation evident in pieces, like above, are finally getting the attention they deserve.

ps You can buy it on sale from Alice Euphemia here!
